[Nearly] Wordless Wednesday – 4.10

Happy Wednesday!  It’s my second post on the blog and I’m already copying off of other people.  DON’T JUDGE ME.

There’s a common theme on many blogs across the interwebz on Wednesdays and, call me a lemming, I’m jumping on the bandwagon.  On The Lovable Lens, I’ll be participating in “Wordless Wednesdays”, the idea that all you post is a photograph that requires no words and speaks for itself.  Obviously, nothing about this post is ‘wordless’, so just go with it.  I think I’m going to call these posts nearly wordless because I’ll probably provide some caption or quick notes about settings, etc.

Additionally, I don’t just want [Nearly] Wordless Wednesdays to be about me, I want it to be about other great photographers out there who inspire me…and that could be YOU!  Especially now as I am fo’ sho’ a novice photographer, my [Nearly] Wordless Wednesdays might look something like this:

4.10 - Michelle

Oh wow!  Look at that less-than-mediocre iPhone picture of my less-than-clean bedroom slipper that a toddler stuck a dog sticker in about a week ago and I just now found.  How inspiring!

Because I haven’t yet taking the time to really focus on using my nice DSLR, many of pictures are on my iPhone and though the subject matter of my dirty dog bedroom slipper is hilarious to my husband and I, I don’t think you care.

All of that to say…can you help me??  I would LOVE to take a peak at some of your favorite pictures you’ve taken and share them here on [Nearly] Wordless Wednesdays as a way to inspire and motivate me and my millions of readers (ba dum, ching).  If you would like to participate in this weekly series, please email a high-resolution image to and include your first name, the camera/equipment you used, and maybe a quick note on the location or subject matter.  If you’re a chatty cathy and type an essay about your picture, I might edit it down a bit to stay in the very clearly parameters that is ‘nearly’ wordless.

Alright peeps, start submitting some photos.  My dirty bedroom slippers and I are in obvious need of some help!

Let’s Do This!

bio picBonjour! My name is Michelle and I’m just a gal trying to learn how to take better pictures and document my ordinary, Midwest life. I can look at a photo or piece of art and tell you what I like and don’t like about it, but as of yet, I don’t know how to create photographs that I love myself. This blog is my journey to learn!

I recently left my job as a high school business teacher to stay home with my daughter, and we are looking forward to welcoming a baby boy into the world in May! Like so many people, my kids are what have finally pushed me to take the proper steps to learn photography and become more comfortable with my camera. I’ve taken plenty of decent pictures on my iPhone but I know that I owe it to my sweet babies to use a real camera and capture higher quality images of them. I’ll be using a variety of resources to learn including books, website tutorials, and the experts at Wolfe’s Camera. Oh, and trial and error. Lots and lots of that.

Random facts about me:

I strive to be very organized, but visit my house and you’ll see chaos.

I get cranky when I’m hungry.

I think everything tastes better dipped in ranch dressing.

I think coffee smells SO good but I can’t stand the taste (maybe I should try adding some ranch dressing, no?).

I tend to use a lot of parenthesis (like this [and then even embed some, like I’m doing algebra]).

Fall is obviously the best season ever.

I met my husband in English 101. He’s the cutest guy around.

I have the sense of humor and maturity level of a 13-year-old boy.

Come on! Let’s learn about photography together! (Cheesy kid’s TV show voice)

XOXO, Michelle
